Here are show-notes for PMP Episode 6:

1. It is not uncommon for school leaders to abandon their profession after a few years since burnout is so common.
2. People often tell me, “I would never want to do you your job.” When you manage the kinds of drama school leaders, it can easily become overwhelming. So what are some steps you can take to remain positive?
A. Accept that negatives always exist. No matter how much better a school becomes, there will always be some level of conflict; it’s human nature.
B. You must stay focused on the positives that are so much more important than the negative. When you do, it reminds you of why you love schools.
C. You must never stop celebrating the wonderful, beautiful, hilarious moments of education.
3. Three easy-steps to staying positive: Get out of your office and be with students; Turn difficult moments into learning opportunities for others and yourself; Treasure the time you have each day with students and team members.

Conclusion

When you focus on the more positive elements of your work in focus helps you keep the negatives in perspective. Remember the parts of school that you love; this helps keep your leadership in perspective and motivated to stay positive in helping others.

Now It’s Your Turn

Think of what’s happening in your school that is worth celebrating today. Focus on those positive elements and celebrate by sharing them others.
